During his high school years at Fort Payne High School, Alex showcased his exceptional talent. In a standout moment, he broke the Alabama state record for the longest field goal with a remarkable 61-yard kick against North Jackson. This achievement not only highlighted his skill but also solidified his reputation as one of the top kickers in the nation. His accolades included being named a Kohl’s Kicking national field goal champion, participating in the Under Armour All-America Game, and earning a spot in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game, where he set a record with a 58-yard field goal.
The Auburn Journey
In 2022, Alex committed to Auburn University, joining a program with a storied history of producing elite kickers. His freshman season was nothing short of spectacular. He made 13 consecutive field goals, setting a new school record, and was named a semifinalist for the prestigious Lou Groza Award, which honors the nation’s top placekicker. His performance earned him All-SEC honors and recognition as a Freshman All-American.
Facing Adversity
Just as Alex was establishing himself as one of college football’s premier kickers, life threw him a curveball. In the spring of 2024, he began experiencing severe gastrointestinal issues. Initially, he tried to push through the discomfort, but his condition worsened, leading to a significant weight loss and a decline in his overall health. After extensive testing, he was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), a chronic condition that can cause debilitating symptoms.
The illness sidelined him for the majority of the 2024 season. At one point, he weighed as little as 110 pounds, a stark contrast to the athlete who had once been a standout on the field. Despite these challenges, Alex remained determined to return to the game he loved. He underwent offseason surgery and, with the support of medical professionals and his family, began the arduous process of recovery.

By the fall of 2024, Alex was making strides in his recovery. He gained weight, regained his strength, and began participating in practice sessions. His first game back was against Kentucky, where he successfully kicked an extra point and a field goal, marking a triumphant return to the field.
Reflecting on his journey, Alex expressed gratitude for the support he received from his teammates, coaches, and family. “It was a slow process to get him to where he’s at now, but I think he weighs a little over 140 now. So he’s gaining that weight, he’s starting to kick,” said Auburn special teams coordinator Tanner Burns.
