Alabama Cracks Top 10 in Post-Spring College Football Rankings
Entering the 2024 football season, the Alabama Crimson Tide was ranked No. 5 in the country, but stumbled to No. 17 after a 9-4 season. Head coach Kalen DeBoer has attempted to flip the script with the Crimson Tide retaining many crucial pieces on the defense while also adding essential transfers.
At the sport’s most important position, quarterback, Alabama will start a first-year starter, with Ty Simpson the favorite to land the starting job.
On Monday, On3’s Andy Staples released his top-25 following spring football, with Alabama coming in at No. 7. The Crimson Tide is one of four SEC teams in the top 10 and among the nine SEC teams in the top 25.
“I moved Alabama into the top 10 because every time I look at the Crimson Tide’s depth chart, I get less worried about the quarterback competition,” Staples said. “Whoever wins the job — Ty Simpson looks like the favorite — is going to have serious talent around him and a defense that should take pressure off the offense.
On the offensive side, Alabama is loaded. Ryan Williams leads the way, but the Tide also boasts wide receiver Germie Bernard, who led Alabama in catches last season, and Miami transfer Isaiah Horton, who caught 56 passes for 616 yards and five touchdowns.
At running back, Alabama brings back Jamarion Miller, who ran for 668 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023.
With Ryan Grubb reuniting with DeBoer to run Alabama’s offense, the Crimson Tide will be able to challenge anyone in the SEC.
