Duke Commit Sends Message to Jon Scheyer After Big Announcement
The Duke Blue Devils were just a few plays from the national title last season.
Duke suffered a 70-67 loss to Houston in the Final Four, ultimately ending their season with a 35-4 record.
Before losing to Houston, Duke defeated Alabama, Arizona, Baylor and Mount St. Mary’s.
Now, head coach Jon Scheyer has to rebuild a roster that’s going to lose plenty of talent to the NBA Draft.
On Monday, Scheyer received major news regarding the future of the team.
While visiting Duke, arguably the top player in the transfer portal, Cedric Coward, announced his commitment to the ACC program.
When posting the news, Coward sent a message to Scheyer and the coaching staff.
“I think Blue is my color!” I’m excited to be joining the Duke family! Thank you to Coach Scheyer and the entire staff for believing in me. I truly believe God has led me to Duke, just as He has led Duke to me. I will also be keeping my name in the NBA Draft to continue testing the waters.#TheBrotherhood #DukeMBB.”
Last season, Coward recorded 17.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.
Coward played for Washington State last season and also previously competed with the Eastern Washington Eagles for two seasons.
Throughout his college basketball career, Coward has posted 12.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.
While Coward has committed to play for Jon Scheyer and the Duke Blue Devils, he also mentioned that he will continue to test the waters for the 2025 NBA Draft.
Duke already has plenty of draft prospects, including Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, Khaman Maluach and Tyrese Proctor.
Duke basketball has recently received exciting news with a major commitment that has fans buzzing. Following this announcement, the new recruit has taken to social media to express gratitude and enthusiasm towards head coach Jon Scheyer. The commitment signifies a bolster in Duke’s talent pool, further solidifying their reputation as a premier program.
In the heartfelt message, the incoming player praised Scheyer for his leadership, vision, and the transformative experience he provides for athletes. This commitment not only reflects the recruit’s faith in the program but also underscores Scheyer’s ability to attract top talent despite the challenges of transitioning from Mike Krzyzewski’s legendary tenure.
The recruit’s excitement highlights a shared vision for success and a belief in Duke’s potential for a bright future. It’s clear that the new addition intends to contribute significantly to the Blue Devils’ quest for championships. As Duke prepares for the upcoming season, the alignment between the coaching staff and the player bodes well for team chemistry and competitive drive.
Duke fans are hopeful this commitment will lead to even more success on the court and continue the legacy of excellence the program is known for. The dialogue between the recruit and Scheyer signals a promising beginning for both the player and the Blue Devils.
