Alabama depth chart 2025: Projecting starters on offense after transfer portal closed
The Crimson Tide has, however, added a few players. There could be more additions over the next few weeks as well. A player’s name only has to be in the transfer portal before the deadline. He doesn’t have to pick a new school by the deadline, which was April 25.
But outside of maybe a couple more additions, the roster is all but set for the 2025 season. And after the spring, we have more clarity as to what the depth chart could look like come fall. Of course, things can change once fall practices start and coaches get more data points to help make decisions.
But for now, as of the end of April, here’s our best educated guess on what the depth chart would look like on offense if the season started today.

Quarterback
Starter: Ty Simpson
Reserves: Austin Mack, Keelon Russell
Analysis: Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb made this projection much easier at the end of spring. He declared what already seemed to be the case: Simpson is at the front of the pack.
“At the end of the day, if we’re playing a football game tomorrow, Ty Simpson would start,” Grubb said April 14.
That’s not surprising, considering Simpson is the most veteran of the group, even though he hasn’t played many meaningful snaps in games yet. The competition isn’t over though. Alabama still has all summer and into fall practices leading up to the season opener against Florida State at the end of August to determine if someone else should start. But for now, Simpson remains at the front of the line.
Running back
Starter: Jam Miller
Reserves: Richard Young, Daniel Hill, Dre Washington, Kevin Riley, AK Dear
Analysis: Miller is back for another season after starting in 2024, and there’s no reason to believe he won’t start again. The question is, who gets the most reps behind him? Young figures to be in the mix for a good number of carries, but Hill was one guy “who maybe stood out as much as anybody this spring” Grubb said heading into the summer.
Wide receiver
Starters: Ryan Williams, Germie Bernard, Isaiah Horton
Reserves: Rico Scott, Lotzeir Brooks, Jaylen Mbakwe, Cole Adams, Jalen Hale, Derek Meadows, Bubba Hampton
Analysis: Williams and Bernard both return as starters in 2025. Both are talented and will be key figures on the offense. For three-receiver sets, Horton makes the most sense to put on the field with Williams and Bernard. The Miami transfer brings size that neither Williams nor Bernard have (6-4, 209 pounds), and Horton might hold the most intrigue or buzz of any transfer portal addition on the roster. He has a chance to be an X-factor alongside Williams and Bernard.
