Five Major Reasons Why I Still Support Auburn Tigers

Support for a college sports team often transcends logic and reason. It’s not always about the wins or losses, but about pride, tradition, and the deep connection fans form with the team over time. For Auburn University and the Auburn Tigers, this unwavering support is fueled by several reasons that make the school’s athletic program, particularly football, a source of pride. Whether it’s the history, the spirit of competition, or the community surrounding Auburn, there’s no shortage of reasons to continue supporting the Tigers year after year. Here are five major reasons why I, and countless others, still support Auburn Tigers:

1. A Storied Football History and Legacy

Auburn University has a rich football history that dates back to its first season in 1892. The Tigers have been a consistent powerhouse in college football, producing legendary players, iconic coaches, and memorable moments.

One of the main reasons for my continued support of the Auburn Tigers is the undeniable legacy the school has in the world of college football. The Tigers have been the home to some of the greatest athletes in the history of the sport, such as Bo Jackson, who became a two-sport superstar, and Cam Newton, who led Auburn to a national championship in 2010.

Auburn has won two national championships in football (1957 and 2010), and despite not winning every year, the team remains competitive at the highest level. The battles with archrivals like Alabama, Georgia, and LSU always produce thrilling games that make college football exciting to watch. The Iron Bowl, in particular, between Auburn and Alabama, is one of the most intense and storied rivalries in all of sports, offering up some of the best moments in college football history.

2. The Auburn Family

What makes Auburn truly special isn’t just the football games or the victories, but the culture and sense of community that surrounds it. Auburn fans refer to themselves as part of the “Auburn Family.” This isn’t just a catchy slogan; it’s a deeply ingrained philosophy that permeates every corner of the university and its sports programs.

The Auburn Family isn’t just about cheering on a team — it’s about the shared values of loyalty, hard work, and determination. Whether you’re an alumni, a student, or just a lifelong fan, there is an unspoken bond that connects everyone who wears orange and blue. This sense of belonging goes beyond sports, creating a community of individuals who genuinely care for one another. Whether it’s an Auburn tailgate party, a local event, or simply running into another Auburn fan on the street, there’s an immediate connection.

This strong sense of family and community makes it feel like the support for the Auburn Tigers is a lifelong commitment, passed down from generation to generation. It’s not just about showing up to games, but about being a part of something bigger.

3. The Battle Against the Odds

Throughout its history, Auburn has often been the underdog. Auburn has faced significant challenges, whether it’s competing with the more heavily funded teams, overcoming recruitment hurdles, or battling through periods of NCAA investigations. However, these challenges have only made the victories sweeter and the supporters even more loyal.

The Tigers’ resilience in the face of adversity is something that resonates with me. Even when things don’t go as planned — such as heartbreaking losses or unexpected setbacks — Auburn continues to fight and persevere. This tenacity in the face of adversity is inspiring, not only for Auburn fans but for anyone who watches their journey.

Take, for example, the 2010 National Championship season. Many questioned the Tigers’ chances that year, yet Auburn, led by Cam Newton, proved everyone wrong. The team’s ability to come together and deliver under pressure made that championship not just a victory on the field, but a statement about their character.

Auburn’s determination, grit, and relentless pursuit of excellence are qualities I admire and, ultimately, these traits make me continue to support the Tigers.

4. The Spirit of “War Eagle”

There’s something uniquely magical about the chant “War Eagle!” that echoes throughout Jordan-Hare Stadium and reverberates through every Auburn fan’s heart. The phrase is deeply ingrained in Auburn’s identity and is a symbol of the spirit, pride, and passion that defines the Tigers.

The War Eagle battle cry, which has its roots in Auburn’s rich history and Native American culture, unites fans in a shared experience that’s both emotionally charged and exhilarating. There’s nothing quite like standing in the stadium, hearing the roar of the crowd, and watching the Auburn eagle soar over the field just before kickoff. The sight and sound of it are enough to give you chills, and in that moment, you know you’re part of something bigger than just a game — you’re part of a tradition.

This deep connection to tradition and the emotional bond that it creates is one of the reasons I continue to support Auburn. “War Eagle” isn’t just a cheer; it’s a way of life for Auburn fans. It represents not just support for the team but a collective will to succeed, no matter what.

5. The Integrity and Leadership of the Coaches

Another significant reason for my ongoing support of the Auburn Tigers is the integrity and leadership of the coaching staff. Auburn has been fortunate to have had some truly remarkable coaches throughout its history. From the legendary Shug Jordan, who led the Tigers to their first national championship in 1957, to recent leaders like Gus Malzahn and Bryan Harsin, Auburn’s coaches are committed to instilling discipline, values, and sportsmanship in their players.

But beyond the Xs and Os of football, Auburn’s coaching staff has consistently focused on the personal development of their athletes. Coaches like Pat Dye, who led the Tigers to many successful seasons, often emphasized the importance of academic success and community involvement. Auburn’s dedication to developing well-rounded individuals who succeed both on and off the field is something that I deeply admire.

The leadership within the coaching staff helps to create an environment where student-athletes can thrive. This commitment to excellence and integrity is what makes Auburn not just a sports team, but a program that cultivates values that fans can believe in. For many, supporting Auburn is a way to support these ideals of hard work, perseverance, and respect for the game.

Auburn Tigers aren’t just a football team; they represent a commitment to excellence, community, and tradition. From a rich and storied history in football to the unmatched spirit of the Auburn Family, there are countless reasons to continue supporting this beloved team. Whether it’s the battle against the odds, the magical War Eagle cry, or the leadership of dedicated coaches, the Auburn Tigers embody what it means to fight for something greater than oneself.

In a world where sports often feel like a business, Auburn stands as a reminder of what college athletics should be about: passion, pride, integrity, and a sense of community. The connection between the Tigers and their fans is undeniable, and that bond only grows stronger with each passing year. I’ll continue to support Auburn not because of the victories they achieve, but because of the values they stand for and the incredible people who make up the Auburn Family. War Eagle!
