Alabama Gets Good News After Disappointing NCAA Tournament Loss
The Alabama Crimson Tide looked to have some hope going into this year’s men’s NCAA Tournament, but they fell by 20 points to Duke in the Elite 8 round.
Lately, there has been a large number of college players entering the transfer portal, and some have already decided which school they will suit up for this fall. But Alabama and its head coach Nate Oats have gotten some good news as far as their roster for next season.
Freshman big man Aiden Sherrell will reportedly be remaining with the Crimson Tide and will therefore play for them once next season starts.
Sherrell is 6-foot-10 and weighs 240 pounds, and while he didn’t play that much this season, he perhaps has a chance to blossom moving forward.
He averaged 3.4 points and 2.8 rebounds in 8.8 minutes a game and made 51.1% of his field-goal attempts during the 2024-25 campaign for the Crimson Tide.
The Crimson Tide had looked fairly impressive in the first three rounds of the tournament before falling to Duke. In that Elite 8 game, they shot just 35.4% from the field and went 8-of-32 from 3-point range.
Last year, they reached the Final Four, only to lose to the eventual national champion UConn Huskies.
Despite a challenging exit from the NCAA Tournament, the University of Alabama’s basketball programs have received positive developments. The men’s team, seeded No. 2 in the East Region, fell to Duke in the Elite Eight. Notably, Houston’s victory over Duke in the Final Four has highlighted the competitiveness of the tournament. a earned a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament, marking their 14th appearance and third consecutive trip. They faced Green Bay in the first round, demonstrating the program’s growth under Coach Kristy Curry.
Looking ahead, Alabama’s roster boasts multiple NBA prospects. Freshman Derrion Reid, a five-star recruit, is projected as a first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. His versatility and athleticism have drawn significant attention from scouts.
