Auburn announces pitching rotation for weekend series versus Tennessee
The No.11 Auburn Tigers travel to Knoxville this week to face the No. 6 Tennessee Volunteers in a big weekend series. Auburn started the week off the right way with a 3-0 win over Samford on Tuesday night, which followed a key SEC series win over Mississippi State in front of the home crowd.
The Tigers enter the series with a 31-14 record and are 11-10 in conference play. The Volunteers are 36-9 overall with a 13-8 conference record. On Tuesday night, the Volunteers defeated Northern Kentucky 7-5.
On Thursday, the Tigers announced their starting pitcher rotation for the series, which features a shake-up from the normal routine. Here is a look at who will start for the Auburn Tigers in their weekend series at Tennessee.
Game one: Samuel Dutton (Friday)
Samuel Dutton will get the start for game one on Friday night. He has been the Tigers best pitcher this season with a 5-2 record and a ERA of 2.48. In his last start last Friday, he had a good performance against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Dutton pitched six innings and struck out nine batters. As a member of the LSU Tigers, he faced the Volunteers twice last season. He pitched a little over three innings in those games, and LSU lost both games. He will be looking for a different result on Friday night.
Game two: Cam Tilly (Saturday)
Cam Tilly will get the start on Saturday. He is 2-1 on the season, but has just one start. That start occurred last week in a 14-8 victory over Mississippi State. He pitched four innings versus the Bulldogs giving up three runs but striking out three batters. He struggled at times allowing three walks as well. The decision was not his and went to Carson Myers who picked up the win. Those four innings were the most Tilly had played in a single game this season.
