Cardinals QB Kyler Murray: Marvin Harrison Jr. ‘didn’t even scratch the surface’ as rookie

Marvin Harrison Jr. enjoyed a solid rookie season for the Arizona Cardinals after the team made him the No. 4 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray believes the talented receiver will be even better heading into his second season, as the veteran quarterback told Arizona Sports’ Cardinals Corner.

“For him to have eight touchdowns and feel like he didn’t even scratch the surface, that’s saying something,” Murray said of Harrison. In addition to his eight scores, Harrison made 62 catches and generated 885 yards while playing in all 17 games as a rookie. However, the Ohio State product posted a catch rate of just 53.4%, which ranked 176th among 192 qualified players during the 2024 NFL season.

As such, Murray believes there is room for the connection between the two to grow and improve.

“Obviously, me and him have to be better and we will be better,” Murray said, echoing a point he made after the team’s Week 16 loss to the Carolina Panthers. “But I loved where he was mentally at the end of the season. Being more open, being more comfortable with the guys in the locker room, being more comfortable with me, being more comfortable just to speak his mind within the receiving room with [quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork and passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach Drew Terrell].”

Murray is hoping Harrison will continue to communicate at a high level and believes that will go a long way toward fostering a fruitful relationship between the two.

“I understand him in the sense of he’s got this name and he wants to just come in and prove himself,” Murray said. “People say he’s not talkative. Well, they would have said I wasn’t talkative my rookie year, either, because all I wanted to do was come in and show guys I’m worth where they picked me and who I am.

“So, I understand that part of his personality. But as he gets more comfortable, he’s going to continue to grow. I truly believe that.”
