Former LSU Tiger recruiting bust hoping to finally let his speed shine back in the SEC following latest transfer portal decision
When it comes to the wide receiver position, the LSU Tigers football program develops talent as well as any program in all of college football. Development at the position has obviously been tremendous from a coaching perspective, but you also can’t overlook the impact that recruiting has also had on the position as well. There has been a ton of talent to work with over the years.
If you think back to the 2023 recruiting class for LSU, there was a lot of excitement around that wide receiver haul. With hindsight involved, we now understand just how underwhelming that class ended up being. That includes wide receiver Jalen Brown, who is now set to play for his third different program in as many years.
The Florida speedster lasted just one season with the LSU program before opting for the transfer portal last offseason. Brown would land at Florida State, and would once again, fail to make an impact on the field. In two college seasons so far, Brown has managed to haul in just eight receptions for 75 yards. He also returned one kickoff for 19 yards.
For the second time, Brown opted again for the transfer portal this offseason. Now Brown is heading back to the SEC, expected to land with the Arkansas Razorbacks. They are taking a gamble on an extremely talented pass catcher who hasn’t put it together yet.
The 6-1, 175-pound wide receiver originally came out of Gulliver Prep in Miami, Florida. Brown was rated as the No. 71 overall player and No. 12 wide receiver in the 2023 recruiting class according to the 247Sports Composite ranking. At the time, Brown ended up opting for the Tigers over offers from Georgia, Texas, Notre Dame, Michigan, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Ole Miss among many others.
Brown has been lauded for the speed that he brings for the table, projected to run somewhere in the 4.4s in the forty-yard dash. Arkansas provides Brown with a fresh start. Nobody knows exactly what to expect, but most hope that he begins to realize his potential. It will be interesting to see if Brown can finally find the right situation to showcase his speed and playmaking upside.
