Four-star Washington Football DL target decommits from Tennessee Volunteers
The Washington Huskies have scoured every corner of the country in search of help along the defensive line in the 2026 class, which led them to four-star Tyson Bacon of Hoover High School in Alabama.
Bacon, a 6-foot-3, 263-pound versatile prospect, is ranked as the nation’s No. 34 defensive lineman and No. 297 overall player in the 2026 class, and announced his commitment to Tennessee in October 2024. However, ahead of a slew of official visits, he backed off of his pledge on Wednesday.
“I’m going to give every school a fair chance, because you only go through this recruiting process once,” Bacon told GoVols247’s Ryan Callahan in March.
Bacon is currently set to visit Washington for the Huskies’ spring game on May 2, and is also set to visit Alabama and Georgia in May, as well as Florida and Tennessee in June. According to On3’s Chad Simmons, he’s also in the process of setting up official visits with Miami and Michigan.
While it’s going to be difficult to dip into the heart of SEC country and steal such a coveted player, since Bacon has reeled in 24 offers from many of the nation’s elite programs, Washington’s push for him represents a growing trend from Jedd Fisch’s front office.
“We made a concerted effort to dip into the start of Alabama and look for body types,” senior director of player personnel Matt Doherty said of three-star 2025 signee Caleb Smith in December, a product of Birmingham, Alabama. “That area of the country produces a disproportionate amount of long, athletic bodies that wind up being fairly successful contributors on a lot of defensive lines around America.”
