Georgia, Kirby Smart Closing in on Top Running Back Target

The Georgia Bulldogs and head coach Kirby Smart are looking to get back to the national championship game. After a few years of being the clear-cut most talented team in the nation, they took a step back during the 2024 college football season.

When all was said and done last year, Georgia finished with an 11-3 record. Smart and company went 6-2 in SEC play.

In order to get back to being a yearly favorite, Smart will need to continue adding elite talent via recruiting and the transfer portal. Right now, the Bulldogs are pushing hard for one top-tier running back in the 2026 recruiting class.

That running back is none other than four-star prospect Jae Lamar.

Lamar, who hails from Colquitt County High School in Moultrie, Georgia, is currently ranked as the No. 9 running back in the 2026 class by On3 Sports. He is also ranked as the No. 110 player in the nation and No. 13 player coming out of Georgia.

According to On3 Sports, the Bulldogs are in a great position to land Lamar.

As of the time of this writing, Georgia is being given an 81.2% chance of landing Lamar’s commitment. The next closest teams behind them are Auburn with a 6.1% chance and Miami with a 4.4% chance.

Things can always change when it comes to recruiting, but the Bulldogs have the strongest chances to get their top running back target as of right now.

Other teams who are still in the hunt for Lamar are Florida State and Clemson. Both could be threats to keep an eye on.

No timetable has been given by Lamar about when he could announce his commitment choice. All Georgia can do is keep recruiting and hope that he chooses the Bulldogs.
