Georgia Makes Massive Moves in College Football Transfer Portal This Weekend

The Dawgs received commitments from the following three players on Sunday, per On3’s Pete Nakos: Illinois running back Josh McCray, Miami defensive lineman Joshua Horton and Army linebacker Elo Modozie.

McCray gives the Dawgs some added depth at running back, continuing the program’s history of utilizing multiple rushers in the team’s offensive attack. The running back posted 117 carries for 609 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns for Illinois in 2024.

Horton was widely viewed as one of the top available players in the transfer portal and could immediately contribute to the team’s pass rush. Modozie is coming off his best season of his career with Army. The linebacker notched 34 tackles and 6.5 sacks in 14 appearances during the 2024 season.

Georgia has also been linked to North Carolina Tar Heels pass rusher Beau Atkinson. It remains to be seen if these recent additions will preclude the Dawgs from landing Atkinson.

“NEWS: North Carolina standout transfer EDGE Beau Atkinson will visit Ohio State & Georgia, @on3sports has learned,” On3’s Hayes Fawcett detailed on April 16. “Atkinson, one of the (top players in the portal), has totaled 11 Sacks through 2 seasons Plans to add more visits as his process goes on.”

Over the weekend, the Georgia Bulldogs made significant moves in the college football transfer portal, bolstering their roster with key additions. Notably, they secured commitments from two standout players: wide receiver Zachariah Branch and safety Zion Branch, both formerly of USC .

Zachariah Branch, a former five-star recruit, brings dynamic playmaking abilities to Georgia’s receiving corps. In the 2024 season, he recorded 47 receptions for 503 yards and a touchdown, showcasing his speed and versatility . His addition is expected to fill the void left by departures in Georgia’s wide receiver lineup.
