Georgia softball falls to Ole Miss in series finale 5-3
The No. 23 Georgia Bulldogs came up short in Saturday’s series finale, falling 5-3 to No. 17 Ole Miss at Jack Turner Stadium. Georgia now holds a 28-17 overall record, with a 6-14 mark in SEC play.
Randi Roelling was charged with the loss after working five innings and allowing five runs. She gave up six hits with three strikeouts and six walks. Lilli Backes entered in relief and tossed two clean innings, giving up only one hit.
The Bulldogs put up their first runs in the fourth inning, after a slow offensive start in the first three. Jadyn Goodwin opened with a double down the right field line and Georgia scored two runs when Mua Williams reached on a fielding error, advancing Goodwin and Sarah Gordon to home plate.
In the fifth inning, Goodnight singled to shortstop to get the team going. She led the way at the plate, tallying two of the Bulldogs’ five hits. Goodnight stole second, allowing her to score after another fielding error, bringing the score to 5-3. The Bulldogs could not get their bats going in the last two innings, though, unable to gain a lead against Ole Miss.
Seniors Backes, Lyndi Rae Davis, Rachel Gibson and Goodnight were honored prior to the game as part of Senior Day.
“At the end of the day, it’s a great group,” head coach Tony Baldwin said. “I’ll put our environment and locker room up with anybody in the country, and that starts with the people you have in the room. We have a great group of seniors that have led us through this, and hopefully we can finish this out the right way.”
Georgia wrapped up its regular season home slate with a 20-10 record. The Bulldogs also set a new single-season attendance record in 2025, drawing a total of 52,704 fans to Jack Turner Stadium. Georgia now hits the road to Atlanta for an in-state rivalry game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Tuesday, April 22. The in-state showdown will begin at 8 p.m., live on ACC Network.
“Right now, we’re going to enjoy Easter,” Baldwin said. “That’s a bigger day than this whole softball thing anyway. We’re going to take advantage of the opportunity to celebrate that with our families and friends. We’ll get to work on Monday and then be ready to go play a really tough Georgia Tech team. They’re having a great year, and, on the road, we know it’s going to be tough. We’re going to have to play good softball. Right now, we had an opportunity today and we just didn’t get it done.”
