How to watch today’s Notre Dame football spring game live stream
It was a historic season for the Fighting Irish as they reached the national championship in the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff. Notre Dame fell short of the ultimate goal, losing to Ohio State, 34-23.
It’s been a challenging offseason with injury recovery and coaching changes headlining the period. Nonetheless, the spring game has arrived with a new twist this year.
The game will feature a new scoring system, similar to a fantasy football set up. Among the offensive scoring options, there is six points for a touchdown, 1 for a PAT, 1 for a first down and 2 points for each play over 20 yards.
Defensive scoring options include: 1 point for forcing a punt, 5 points for a takeaway in plus territory,7 points for a takeaway in minus territory and 12 points for a defensive score.
The coaches
Head coach Marcus Freeman (32-9 overall) proved just how special of a culture he is building in South Bend, but there were some hefty changes after they nearly one it all. One of the biggest storylines will be how new defensive coordinator Chris Ash will revamp a stellar defense he inherited from Al Golden. Mike Denbrock returns as offensive coordinator and tight ends coach.
Ja’Juan Seider sinks in at running backs coach with a strong group at his disposal. He replaces Deland McCullough.
The quarterback battle takes center stage
Who will fill the shoes of versatile quarterback Riley Leonard? Leonard amassed 2,861 passing yards and 906 rushing yards with a combined 38 touchdowns. Senior Steve Angeli, sophomore Kenny Minchey and freshman CJ Carr are all contending for the job. Angeli has the most game experience by a wide mile.
Jeremiyah Love runs it back
Notre Dame will return one of the best running backs in the nation as Jeremiyah Love runs it back. He compiled 1,215 yards and 17 touchdowns last season. Jadarian Price is also back after tallying 746 yards and seven touchdowns.
The tandem reinforces a 1-2 punch that is expected to be even more punishing in the fall.
Sophomore Aneyas Williams and freshman Kedren Young will round out the rest of the rushing attack.
Elijah Burress breakout?
Freshman Elijah Burress, son of Plaxico Burress, will get plenty of opportunity to shine in the spring game. He has been flashing his skills during camp and the spotlight will shift to a larger stage.
