Ohio State in Position to Receive Huge Transfer Portal News

The defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes are awaiting news on a talented transfer player as the spring window continues.

Head coach Ryan Day and the Buckeyes have recruited well in the high school ranks, signing a top five class in 2025, leaving the portal to address areas of need. That is a selective process for the program, and just six transfers have been signed after Ohio State lost 14.

It’s clear that there is an emphasis on line-of-scrimmage talent. Headlining the group is a pair of four-star offensive tackles in Ethan Onianwa (Rice) and Phillip Daniels (Minnesota).

And it appears the Buckeyes are in a good position to land another talented offensive lineman after extending a scholarship offer to Orion Irving out of Sam Houston State.

According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Irving received the offer on Friday and has scheduled a visit to Columbus for next week.

Irving (6-foot-6, 310 pounds) made a difference for the Bearkats in 2023. He appeared in 10 games and split time at both tackle spots before finishing the season as the starting left tackle. He went on to be named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team.

As a redshirt sophomore last season, Irving was slowed by an injury before moving back into the starting lineup at left tackle for the final four games.

The Houston, Texas, native entered the transfer portal this week. Beyond the Buckeyes, Irving has reportedly garnered interest from Syracuse, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Cal and UCF, among others.

Ohio State could have a leg up over the competitors given Irving’s early offer and upcoming visit.

The spring transfer window will last through April 25. The Buckeyes will open the 2025 season at home against Texas, a Cotton Bowl semifinal rematch, on Aug. 30.
