Oklahoma vs Florida softball score: Updates, highlights from Sooners’ extra-inning win over Gators

With the selection show for the 2025 NCAA softball tournament just 10 days away, two of the best teams in the sport faced off Thursday. And the showdown lived up to the hype.

Four-time reigning NCAA champion Oklahoma (42-5, 16-5 in SEC play) , the sport’s top-ranked team, outlasted No. 7 Florida (41-12, 12-9 SEC) 6-5 in nine innings in the first matchup of a three-game series at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium in Gainesville, Florida.

Abigale Dayton drove in the game-winning run in the top half of the second extra inning, singling to center field with the bases loaded to break a 5-5 deadlock. Dayton had two hits and drove in a team-high two runs Thursday.

Sooners ace Sam Landry overcame an uncharacteristically shaky start to go the distance, giving up three earned runs and striking out six across nine innings while throwing 164 pitches. It was 23 pitches more than her previous season-high of 141. She improved to 18-3 on the season.

Kasidi Pickering and Ella Parker each homered for Oklahoma, which improved to 43-5 overall and 17-5 in SEC play this season. Since Texas A&M defeated Tennessee, the Sooners were unable to clinch the SEC regular-season title with their win.

Mia Williams hit her team-leading 18th homer and Reagan Walsh had three hits for Florida, which fell to 41-13 overall and 12-10 in the SEC.

It’s the final series of the regular season for both programs, which will be among the favorites to win next week’s SEC tournament in Athens, Georgia.

Thursday’s game will be the first meeting of the season between the Sooners and Gators, who are two of the seven SEC teams ranked in the top 10 of the latest USA Softball poll.
