Texas Athletics clinches 2024-25 Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown trophy
AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas has clinched the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown rivalry series trophy for the 2024-25 academic calendar year. The Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown is the official moniker for all varsity men’s and women’s athletics competition in up to 19 sports between The University of Texas and Texas A&M University.
Following Baseball’s series sweep over the weekend, the Longhorns currently sport a 11-5 advantage in the 2024-25 points standings. Only 2.0 total points remain in this year’s competition, as Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field points will be on the line at the SEC Championships on May 15-17.
This marks the seventh time in nine all-time Showdowns that the Longhorns have claimed the rivalry series trophy. The Showdown originated prior to the 2004-05 season and lasted through the 2011-12 season. The competition was reimagined as the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown prior to the current 2024-25 season. Texas has now earned Lone Star Showdown wins in 2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07, 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2024-25.
Cotton Holdings is the title sponsor of all contests between Texas and Texas A&M in every head-to-head sport between the two schools in both Austin and College Station. In addition, Cotton Holdings is the title sponsor for the year-long scoring system comprised of the results of up to 19 sports to determine which school wins the annual Lone Star Showdown rivalry series trophy.
