Jakobe Thomas, a standout safety from Tennessee, has announced his decision to transfer to the University of Miami. This move marks a significant step in Thomas’s football journey, as he transitions from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), bringing with him a wealth of experience and a proven track record.

Before his time at Tennessee, Thomas began his collegiate career at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). During his tenure with the Blue Raiders, he quickly established himself as a formidable presence in the defensive backfield. In the 2022 season, he played in 12 games with three starts, accumulating 37 tackles, four interceptions, and three pass breakups. His performance earned him Second Team All-Conference USA honors and the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week award following a two-interception game against FIU.

The following year, Thomas continued to impress, starting 10 of 11 games and recording 71 tackles, five pass breakups, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a blocked kick. His consistent performance solidified his reputation as one of the top defensive backs in the conference.

In January 2024, Thomas made the decision to transfer to the University of Tennessee, seeking to compete at a higher level in the SEC. During his lone season with the Volunteers in 2024, Thomas appeared in 10 games, starting in several, and contributed 20 tackles, including 3.0 tackles for loss and a sack. He also had two pass breakups and a fumble recovery. Notably, he recorded a season-high 1.5 tackles for loss in a victory over Alabama.

After evaluating his options, Thomas has chosen to continue his collegiate career at the University of Miami. This decision reunites him with his former MTSU defensive coordinator, who is now part of Miami’s coaching staff. Thomas’s familiarity with the coaching staff and defensive schemes is expected to facilitate a smooth transition and allow him to make an immediate impact on the Hurricanes’ defense.

Thomas’s arrival at Miami adds depth and experience to the Hurricanes’ secondary. His ability to play both safety positions and his versatility in coverage make him a valuable asset. His leadership and playmaking ability will be crucial as Miami aims to strengthen its defense in the upcoming season.

As Thomas prepares for his final collegiate season, all eyes will be on his performance with the Miami Hurricanes. His journey from MTSU to Tennessee and now to Miami showcases his growth and determination. With his skill set and experience, Thomas is poised to make a significant impact in the ACC and further his aspirations of playing at the professional level.
