Former Georgia golfer earns over $1.7M in PGA Tour win

Former Georgia Bulldogs golfer Brian Harman earned a PGA Tour win in the 2025 Valero Texas Open. Harman’s fourth career PGA Tour win comes at an ideal time with The Masters being held this week from April 10-13 in Augusta, Georgia.

“The conditions just wouldn’t allow for a super low score,” said Harman after his victory. “I didn’t have my best stuff today, but good enough to make a few putts, and a couple birdies on the back nine helped a lot.”

Harman won the Valero Texas Open by three strokes. He entered Sunday with the lead and maintained it despite not having ideal weather. Harman finished nine-under and shot three-over par during his final round.

The Valero Texas Open had a $9.5 million purse. Harman earned $1.71 million in winnings, which is by far the most he’s earned all season.

Harman, who had not finished in the top 10 of any PGA Tour event this season, decided to switch things up and used a new putter. His bold decision to change things worked out well en route to his victory.

Harman is one of several Georgia Bulldogs that will be competing in The Masters, which is the first PGA Tour event of the season. Harman is the fourth different UGA golfer to win a PGA Tour event this year. He joins Sepp Straka, Harris English and Russell Henley in winning 2025 events.

Former University of Georgia golfer Brian Harman secured his first PGA Tour victory since 2019 by winning the Valero Texas Open on April 6, 2025. The 38-year-old American finished with a 72-hole total of 9-under-par, narrowly edging out fellow competitors to claim the title.Tengolf

Harman’s triumph ended a nearly six-year winless streak on the PGA Tour. His performance included a final round that saw him navigate challenges but ultimately secure the win.Tengolf

As the winner, Harman received a substantial prize of $1.7 million. This victory not only bolstered his earnings but also solidified his status on the PGA Tour, providing exemptions into upcoming major tournaments.Tengolf

Harman’s success serves as a testament to perseverance, illustrating that even after years without a win, dedication to the sport can eventually lead to significant achievements.
