Kam Williams’ father weighs in on stay-go decision with Kentucky Basketball
Williams showed significant improvement and toughness in his first season with the Wildcats.
Kam Williams earned a lot of admiration from Big Blue Nation this past March when he came back from a broken foot to play in the SEC and NCAA Tournaments.
Williams broke his foot initially on Jan. 21st and had surgery shortly thereafter. But he aggressively came back for postseason play, making an impact on both ends of the floor with his 3-point shooting and length on defense.
Williams is currently a question mark when it comes to roster retention entering next season. Part of that is knowing what his role would be if he returns, his father, Greg Williams Sr., told KSR’s Jack Pilgrim.
“Kam is just waiting to see what his role is going to be,” his father, Greg Williams Sr., said. “Once you’re on the team, you never know exactly what direction they’re going the following year.”
It’s clear Williams loves being at Kentucky, at least according to his father. That’s why there’s hope he will return.
“He said he loves Kentucky. This is where he wants to be. I’m just looking to hear that everything’s a done deal and this is where he’ll be,” said Williams Sr.
It’s great hearing these things from Kam’s father, and it sounds like his father is a valuable sounding board for him. How should Big Blue Nation feel? I would say cautiously optimistic. If Williams does return, that’s a great two-way player to have as a foundation for next year’s team.
In his first season with the Cats, Williams averaged six points per game and shot 44.9% from the field and 35.9% from deep. He hit a 3-pointer in 12 of his final 14 games of the season, including one in both of Kentucky’s NCAA Tournament games.
