KYOCERA AVX Contributes $1 Million to Clemson University’s New Advanced Materials Innovation Complex
Clemson University has received a $1 million contribution from the KYOCERA AVX Foundation to support its new Advanced Materials Innovation Complex (AMIC), reinforcing a partnership focused on advancing innovation, talent development and manufacturing. In recognition of the gift, Clemson will name the facility’s main lobby the KYOCERA AVX Lobby.
A Hub for Research and Industry Collaboration
The Advanced Materials Innovation Complex is designed as a central hub for interdisciplinary research, industrial collaboration and workforce development in materials and advanced manufacturing technologies. The complex aims to facilitate discovery and commercialization across sectors including electronics, energy, and manufacturing — areas aligned with Clemson’s research priorities and KYOCERA AVX’s expertise.
Supporting Student and Faculty Innovation
The facility will bring together researchers and students from disciplines such as materials science and engineering, chemistry, and biomolecular engineering to promote collaborative problem-solving. Shared laboratories, collaborative workspaces, and modern instructional environments are intended to support integrated research and education, equipping future engineers and scientists for emerging industry needs.

The facility will also strengthen channels for companies to engage directly with university researchers and students, further contributing to South Carolina’s leadership in advanced manufacturing and technology.
Research at AMIC will focus on smart and sustainable manufacturing, robotics, digital systems, renewable energy, biomaterials, biomedical devices, and transportation technologies, providing hands-on student training with advanced equipment and research resources.
